If anyone here has had this issue with an Epson printer, and has any suggestions on what resolved it, that would be much appreciated. I can scan to network drives just fine, but I see that as a work around not a solution to the problem. Unless I'm having a huge derp moment, or Epson left something out of their setup and support guides, I am not sure what else to try. I've worked IT support for 10 years, and setup many different printers for people working at home for scanning and printing with no issues, so it's not like I'm an idiot. The person that emailed me just told me to check the Network Scanning is enabled in Event Manager, and to disable the firewall and anti-virus temporarily, even though in my initial email I had already stated I done that. I had gotten busy with life and forgotten about it till this past week and emailed Epson Support this time. After 5 minutes they also ended the call. The 2nd person started just word vomiting the above mentioned support documentation links, and when I called them on it, they also put me on hold "to reach out to a manager". The first person had me do everything I just listed again, then when that didn't work put me on hold and eventually hung up after 15 minutes. When I contacted Epson Support directly back in January, I talked to two people. Touching on the "Search again" option doesn't do anything. What does work with no issues are the following:ġ) All PCs connected to the network can print to the printer with no issuesĢ) If I use the scan option in the Epson Scan 2 Utility or Epson ScanSmart software on the PC, that works with no issues for scanning documents directly to the PCģ)As a temporary workaround to not have to walk between multiple rooms, I was able to setup a thumb drive as a network drive on my router, and get the Epson printer to do a scan to network location to that drive, with no issues.ĥ)Scan to computer, when connected to the printer by USB cableĪfter all this though, I still cannot get the option for Scanning to a computer across the network on the printer itself, to see PCs by hostname. So far I have done the following to setup & troubleshoot the printer:ġ) Install the proper printer drivers, Epson Event Manager, Epson ScanSmart, and the Epson Scan 2 utility app.Ģ) Connect printer to the network by WiFi, and confirm it and the PCs are in the same IP address rangeģ) Confirmed Event Manager is running and that Network Scanning is enabledĤ) Confirmed the host name for my PC in the Event Manager Network Scanning option matches what I set for it in Windowsĥ)Confirmed my router shows my PCs' device names correctlyĦ)Checked Windows Firewall and verified that Epson Event Manager (EEventManager.exe), EEvent Manager.exe - Push Scan Discovery, Epson Scan 2 Utility, and Epson ScanSmart all have firewall rules to open the ports the needħ)Checked my router settings, and confirmed it doesn't have any additional firewall settings enabled that might interfere with Windows' Firewall's settingsĨ)Checked that my PC can ping the printer and the printer respondsĩ)Restarted everything to death, and started over multiple times reinstalling the Epson software, resetting my router, and setting everything up from scratch againġ0)Connected the printer to my router by a wired connection, 2.4GHz, and 5GHz connection and it doesn't make a differenceġ1)Updated the printer's firmware to the most recent versionġ2)Contacted Epson Support in January, and again just 2 days ago, with no luck įinally, this article says to check the firewall settings, My home setup relevant to the printer is as follows:ġ- Desktop PC connected by Ethernet cable to routerġ - Epson Workforce WF-7840 printer, connected by WiFi (I've tried both 5GHz and 2.4GHz)Īccording to this support article from Epson's website,, I just have to make sure Epson Scan 2 and the Epson Event Manager are both installed and running on my PC, and that Network Scanning is enabled in the Event Manager.Īnother article from Epson's website, says to check the printer connection is correct in the Epson Scan 2 Utility. I got the Epson Workforce Pro WF-7840 back in December, and everything works great but the scan to PC option on the printer. Epson Support by phone & email has been useless.Īs the title says, I'm trying to setup my printer so that I can scan from the printer to the PC, with the printer's control touchscreen panel. TL:DR - Scan to Computer option on printer doesn't work over network.
